Drawing on Derek Spratley’s thirty years of experience as administrator of the Delaney Estate, Beauford Delaney: Degrees of Separation, revisits the painter’s work and worlds through the lens of these “degrees of separation” to explore the deeply reciprocal influence the artist had on those he encountered throughout his travels across the domestic and international stage.

We will meet both days at the Denbo Center from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm to work on our writing together. The Denbo Center will provide the following: secure locker storage at the Center; an optional brief guided video meditation in our seminar rooms to start each day; coffee breaks and snacks; lunch each day from 12:00-1:00 for Challenge registrants; free parking. We do not offer individual workspaces. Faculty can write together in our KitchenCafe with background music, or in our quiet reading room, conference room, or seminar room. Registrants must supply their own laptops and any equipment they need for the writing sessions. No zoom meetings are allowed during the writing challenge hours.

This challenge is for arts and humanities faculty only. Faculty of any rank or type of appointment are welcome. We can accommodate 15-20 people comfortably: registrants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrants selected must commit to attending both days of the challenge.

Drawing on Derek Spratley’s thirty years of experience as administrator of the Delaney Estate, Beauford Delaney: Degrees of Separation, revisits the painter’s work and worlds through the lens of these “degrees of separation” to explore the deeply reciprocal influence the artist had on those he encountered throughout his travels across the domestic and international stage.
