Our celebration highlighting the theme, “Remembering Black Pasts, Building Black Futures: 50+ Years of Africana Studies at UTK," comes at a time when, our university and local community, are reflecting on race and racism and assessing its effects on us. Joe Sam’s art installation, "Black Lives Matter," comes at a time when we are considering to the widest and fullest extent what this means for Black lives everywhere.
