Baker Cafe Featuring Dr. Matt Cook

Baker Cafe Series is an informal discussion about various topics. Guests are encouraged to ask questions that pertain to the topic and gain insight straight from the experts. We even provide refreshments!

Join Dr. Matt Cook as he discussesThe Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), a cornerstone agreement on which the peaceful (i.e. civilian) use of nuclear technology has been built. At its heart, the NPT is a common declaration that non-weapons states will not pursue the development of weaponized nuclear technology and that the five recognized weapons states will pursue a course of disarmament. The NPT has played a key role in international affairs ranging from disputes of adherence (Iran, Iraq, etc.) to successful disarmament (South Africa and Ukraine) by establishing an international norm of the peaceful use of nuclear technology. This discussion will focus on the history of the NPT and how it remains relevant in today’s international relations.

This event is free and open to the public. Guests may park in the Vol Hall Garage on White Avenue at no charge by requesting a parking voucher from Baker Center staff at the event.
