DESCRIPTION:US coal production has fallen to its lowest levels since the 19
 60’s. Coal-fired power plants are retiring and being replaced by natural
  gas and renewable energy. This Baker Café will summarize the trends in U
 S coal use over the last two decades and discuss the likely future for coa
 l-fired power plants\, which account for most of coal demand. We will disc
 uss the implications for the electric grid\, the environment and coal mini
 ng communities. Dr. Holladay is an Associate Professor of Economics at the
  University of Tennessee and an Energy & Environment Fellow. His research 
 interests include environmental\, energy and international economics.\n\nJ
