Beyond AI Detection: Designing Course Activities for Thinking and Learning in the Age of Generative AI

Event description

How should teaching and learning evolve in the age of generative AI? This interactive workshop introduces IDEA (Instructional Design for AI Era Learning), a framework for analyzing and redesigning course activities and assessments to preserve meaningful thinking, reasoning, productive struggle, and authentic learning in AI-rich educational environments.

Following a streamlined introduction, participants will spend most of the workshop using the custom AI-powered IDEA review agent in ChatGPT. The agent shows how practical, often small changes to an activity or assessment can strengthen student thinking while supporting productive uses of AI. Additional time will be devoted to guided practice with different types of assessments, responding directly to participant requests from the first two workshops.

Faculty are encouraged to bring a laptop and digital copies of one or more course activities or assessments for the extended hands-on workshop portion.
