Prof. Janelle VanderKelen (UT Art, Cinema Studies) is a AY2025-26 Faculty Fellow at the Denbo Center. She will present her fellowship project, "The Golden Thread," a feature film that highlights ways unseen fungi slow climate change and mitigate its effects. The film was filmed in Germany near the home of Hildegard of Bingen, a 12th century abbess, proto-feminist scholar, composer, and self-taught naturalist, and reimagines the connective threads from Hildegard’s visions as the glistening fungal mycorrhizae that recent scientific discoveries indicate are integral to interspecies plant collaboration, human agriculture, forest conservation, and carbon sequestration.
Chandler Seminars, made possible by the generous donations of Denbo Center friends Atty. John Chandler and Elizabeth Chandler, provide a workshop atmosphere where the DCHA residential faculty and graduate student fellows can present their research to one another and also discuss ideas with distinguished visiting scholars.
