Candace Brakewood, Ph.D. and Lee D. Han, Ph.D. Overview of Ongoing Research Projects
Ongoing Research Topics
1. Transit Mobile Ticketing Apps
2. Data from Transit Apps
3. Shared Mobility Services (i.e., Uber)
1. Making Sense of Traffic Data
2. Unsupervised Learning with Examples
Dr. Candace Brakewood joined the faculty in August 2017 after serving on the faculty at the City College of New York for the past three years. She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech and dual MS degrees from MIT in Transportation and Technology Policy. Her research focuses on “smart” transportation systems and aims to use new information and communication technologies to improve urban transportation networks. In 2016, she was named a Rising Star fellow by the Transportation Research Board and was selected for Mass Transit Magazine’s “Top 40 under 40” list. Dr. Lee Han is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CE) and an Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) Collaborating Scientist at the University of Tennessee (UT). His fields of expertise and research interests include traffic engineering, application of advanced technologies to transportation, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), system modeling and simulations, traffic flow theory, traffic operations, transportation data and information systems, emergency evacuation and management, crash records and analysis, transportation logistics, operations research, and 3D visualizations.
