An introduction to Segmental Bridges

 

Abstract

 

This presentation will highlight key design considerations for segmental bridge and how those may differ from more conventional bridge structures. It will also look at differences in considerations for highway compared to transit structures before touching on how alternative materials are beginning to make their way into these structures.

 

Biography

 

Andrew Wagner, Senior Bridge Engineer at HDR, is an Alumni of The University of Tennessee. His 10-year career has focused on complex bridge structures, specifically on segmental bridge projects. That experience includes typical AASHTO loading and light rail transit loading. Wagner has worked on projects across the United States and Canada. Most recently, he served as the Bridge Design Lead for the Preliminary Design of the Ontario Line, a 3km section of elevated guideway in Toronto, Canda. He currently serves as the program manger for the elevated section of light rail structures for a project in Austin, Texas.
