Civil War Lecture Series, "Simon Bolivar Buckner: Borderland Knight or Betrayer of Knoxville?"

This lecture looks at the career of a Kentucky native and professional soldier briefly responsible for the Department of East Tennessee.  Ordered by General Bragg to reinforce Confederate troops in Chattanooga in August of 1863, Buckner was roundly criticized for leaving Knoxville undefended thus permitting Union forces to occupy the town without a fight. This was just one of many points of friction between Braxton Bragg and virtually all of the generals in his command.
