Comedy Night with Maya May

Maya May is a writer and stand-up who used humor to navigate the awkwardness of growing up a black nerd and only child in suburban Chicago. She started standup in 2014, months after moving back to the US after 8 years abroad. Since then Maya has quickly become known for her smart, fun and socially conscious brand of humor - featuring and headlining at some of the country’s best independent showcases including Brooklyn’s Butterboy, Chicago’s Lincoln Lodge and Hollywood Improv’s Women Crush Wednesdays. With an undergrad in Political Science and an MFA in Creative Writing, Maya is a high-energy and positive performer, who keeps audiences engaged with carefully crafted jokes that combine her life experiences with observations on race, politics, class, and gender. She has performed at festivals (Boston Comedy Festival, Women in Comedy Festival, Lady Laughs, All Jane, Chicago Women’s Funny Festival), cubicles, and for all the cashiers at Trader Joes.

Maya May was so FUNNY. This event brought a breath of oxygen to me during the pandemic that was SO HELPFUL.
