About this Event

Though increased physical activity has been clearly shown effective in improving the risk of cardiometabolic disease, Black adults are an understudied population in this area, despite their high prevalence of multiple cardiometabolic risk factors and physical inactivity. Dyadic interventions have been shown to play a positive role in supporting exercise habits, which could influence long-term exercise adherence and consequently, cardiovascular risk. Engaging community experts when planning intervention research is a critical strategy to ensure culturally-relevant, sustainable practices. Thus, this presentation will discuss a community-engaged pilot intervention that examines the effects of exercise on cardiometabolic risk and exercise adherence in middle-aged and older Black adult couples. This multilevel intervention compared couples who exercised together compared to those who exercised separately.
