http://tiny.utk.edu/GillinghamJoin the Energy & Environment program for a forum discussion on climate change in Bangladesh with Dr. Jonathan Gilligan. He will present results from interdisciplinary research on interactions between climate change, sea-level rise, land-use, and population migration. Combining geological and sociological fieldwork with computational approaches that include machine learning and agent-based modeling, Gilligan will identify ways in which land-use can mitigate the effects of sea-level rise and identify important mediating factors that affect when environmental stress leads people to leave their villages and migrate away. Dr. Jonathan Gilligan is Associate Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University. He is director of Vanderbilt's interdisciplinary Grand Challenge Initiative on Climate and Society.
This event is fre and open to the public. The event will be in Toyota Auditorium at the Baker Center, and virtual access will be offered at tiny.utk.edu/gilligan
