Maximizing Institutional Support for Marginalized Students in STEM
Walter Lee, PhD
Department of Engineering Education, Virginia Tech
Advancing diversity and inclusion have been persistent challenges in STEM. Consequently, there remains an urgent need for interventons that address the specific needs of marginalized students as they progress through undergraduate degree programs. To support this effort, Dr. Lee's research focuses on better understanding the programs, activities and services that colleges provide as it relates to student support. In this seminar, he will discuss the ongoing project to gauge the efficiency with which colleges provide support to students in STEM with hopes of contributing to the conversation around diversity and inclusion at UT.
Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Education and the Assistant Director for Research in the Center for the Enhacement of Engineering Diversity, both at Virginia Tech. His research interests include co-curricular support, student success, and diversity in STEM. Lee has a bachelor's in industrial engineering and a PhD in engineering education from Viriginia Tech.
