Trip Overview
Join UTOP for an unforgettable Fall Break backpacking adventure through the stunning Grayson Highlands and Mount Rogers in southwest Virginia! This three-day, two-night trip includes all meals, gear, transportation, and experienced trip leaders—so all you need to bring is your sense of adventure.
We’ll hike 6–9 miles each day through the breathtaking Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, beginning and ending in Grayson Highlands State Park—famous for its scenic views and friendly wild ponies. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or brand new to backpacking, this trip is designed to be beginner-friendly. We’ll carry everything we need in shared group packs and learn as we go. There will also be a one-hour pre-trip meeting the week of departure to review the route, fit gear, and get to know your fellow adventurers. No experience? No problem. We’ll teach you everything you need to know to thrive in the mountains. Come explore the beauty of southwest Virginia with us!
