Please join us in celebrating the 10th Annual Fleming-Morrow Distinguished Lecture in African American History & Symposium. The lecture and symposium will take place on March 6, 2025 in the UT Student Union, Room 169, 9:00 am-4:30 pm.  The symposium and/or lecture are free and open to the public; registration is requested due to limited seating, but there will also be a streaming option. 

 

To begin, scholars will share their latest research on African American history. A luncheon conversation will take place with the lecture’s namesakes, Drs. Cynthia Griggs Fleming and John H. Morrow, Jr.

 

At 3:00 pm, Dr. Crystal R. Sanders, associate professor of African American Studies at Emory University, will deliver the keynote lecture, "Pursuing 'Their Highest Potential': Black Southerners and Graduate Education During the Era of Legal Segregation."

Sanders is the author of A Forgotten Migration: Black Southerners, Segregation Scholarships, and the Debt Owed to Public HBCUs (UNC Press, 2024).
