Introduction to Knoxville
For newcomers and also for natives who want to get to know their town better, this non-credit course with local author and historian Jack Neely will include informal introductory talks about the 226-year-old city, its literature, music, and architecture, as well as tours of the downtown area.
Is Knoxville a Southern city? Is it Appalachian? Is it a college town? The answers to all those questions aren't simple, and deserve discussion.
In many ways, Knoxville is an all-American city that has experienced almost historic trend in our nation's history in one way or another. But much of the course will concern Knoxville today, from its nightclubs and coffee shops to its libraries, museums, natural attractions, and other weekend diversions.
