The College of Veterinary Medicine (UTCVM) is hosting the fifth annual IronDog 5k race to raise awareness about the emergency and critical care needs of small and exotic animals.
Race day registration and packet pick-up are between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. with the 5k beginning at 9:00 a.m. The cost to register is $25 per participant. Visit https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/IronDog to register online. Online registration is available until October 7.
The proceeds from this race will be used to help in the care of critically ill dogs, cats and exotic animals that are treated at the UTCVM Veterinary Medical Center. The veterinary medical center’s Emergency and Critical Care service works with veterinarians throughout Knoxville and the surrounding area to help manage the needs of small and exotic animals.
The out and back race will be held on the Third Creek Greenway, starting beside the beautiful UT Gardens adjacent to the veterinary medical center at the UT Institute of Agriculture. At the 1.5 mile mark of the greenway, there will be a turnaround point with water provided. The finish line will be back in front of the veterinary medical center where water, sports drinks and snacks (including cake from Magpies Bakery) will be available.
Top prizes will be awarded for the top 3 male and female finishers. Walkers are also welcome to join the race! Please note that due to insurance regulations, no pets will be allowed on the race course.
Parking for the race will be available in the veterinary college’s lots 65/66, directly behind the college buildings. Please do not park in any specially marked client parking spaces located in front of the UT Veterinary Medical Center.
