Land Mafia in Neoliberal India

Global Studies and the Department of Sociology present: Dr. Michael Levien, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University. His lecture on land mafia in the state of Rajasthan, India, will combines analysis of court decisions and newspaper articles to argue that coercive land dispossession practices are more a product of -- rather than a deviation from -- its post-liberalization economy. Levien is the author of the award-winning Dispossession without Development (Oxford University Press, 2018). Reception to follow the talk.
