http://ewing-gallery.utk.eduCurated by UTK College of Architecture and Design Professor George Dodds, Learning from Piranesi unites etchings by Roman architect, Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720 – 1728) and works by artists who inspired him, such as Jacques Callot, Salvator Rosa, Guiseppe Vasi and Andrea Pozzo with contemporary works by architects and designers who were Fellows of the American Academy in Rome and UTK student projects from a spring 2020 seminar. The contemporary works demonstrate Piranesi’s continuing capacity to influence architects and designers working today.
