Title: Walking on fractals
Abstract: The term ``fractal" was coined by Mandelbrot in 1975 for sets whose measure-theoretic complexity exceeds their topological complexity. Today, geometry and analysis on fractals is a very active field of research both in mathematics and in engineering. In this talk we will define several notions of dimensions for sets and we will present several examples of fractals coming from Metric Geometry, sub-Riemannian Geometry, Complex Analysis and self-similar systems. In the second part of the talk we will discuss the parameterization problem: which fractals can we parameterize by a ``nice" map?
