Abstract
The presentation will highlight and discuss the key attributes required to develop and support a culture of safety. The discussion will focus around the tools and techniques applied by Bechtel to drive and sustain the safety of our employees. Key topics will include management engagement, training/engagement and process/procedures. Goal is to have an open discussion on what it takes to establish a safety culture where everyone is looking out for each other.

Bio
Russell Daniel is the Manager of Engineering for Bechtel Nuclear, Security and Environmental (NS&E) and was elected Principal Vice President, Bechtel National, Inc. in 2018. Russell is a registered Professional Engineer in Industrial Engineering. He has a BS in Marine Engineering from the US Naval Academy and a MS in Nuclear Engineering (Weapons Effects) from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Russell served as the Deputy Manager of Engineering for approximately one year prior to being assigned the Manager of Engineering role in 2016. Prior to that assignment, Russell was the Technical Manager and Design Authority for the design and construction of the Department of Energy (DOE) Waste Treatment Plant located on the Hanford, Washington site. For the past 25+ years, Russell has served in multiple engineering management roles across the Department of Energy complex. In addition to executing technical design work on WTP, Russell has been assigned as the Engineering Division Manager and the Construction Engineering Manager at the Department of Energy, Pantex Site and as a Systems Engineer / Systems Engineering Manager at the DOE Savannah River Site as well as on the DOE Yucca Mountain project. In addition to his Engineering Management experience, Russell is a certified Master Black Belt and helped establish Six Sigma at Bechtel. Russell’s past experience also includes managing the diagnostic program for underground nuclear testing while he was stationed at the Field Command Defense Nuclear Agency. Russell also served for 10 years in the US Marine Corps.
