Title: "Engendering Success: Educational Outreach at NC State Nuclear and Beyond."
Abstract
Educational outreach is a relationship cultivated over a lifetime, partners in developing a path forward for the good of the person, organization, and field. Engagement is at the heart of the enterprise. Lisa Marshall will provide her take on what this means for nuclear engineering and why it is the duty of everyone to reflect on their experiences and embrace a systems-thinking approach for future generations.
Bio
Lisa Marshall is the Director of Outreach, Retention & Engagement, Lecturer and Academic Adviser for North Carolina State Department of Nuclear Engineering. Marshall was a 2017-2020 board member for the American Nuclear Society. She is currently the co-vice chair for the Diversity & Inclusion in ANS Committee, the 2020-21 vice-chair for the External Affairs Committee and current program chair for the Education, Training & Workforce Development Division. She is chair of NC State’s Association of Women Faculty and serves on the working council for NC State’s Women in Science & Engineering (WISE) Program.
Marshall developed an energy geographies course that is taught during NC State’s China Study Abroad Program in Engineering, Science Technology & Society (STS) and International Relations. She is also a lecturer for two introductory first-year College of Engineering courses.
She was the Education Outreach Director for the US Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)-funded Consortium for Nonproliferation Enabling Capabilities (CNEC) that wrapped up this September.
Marshall is also on the board of advisers for UT's Department of Nuclear Engineering.
