Negotiating Basics Workshop for Graduate Students
The WiSTAR3 (Women in STEM Advancing Research, Readiness, and Retention) Early Career Mentoring program is designed to provide graduate students in STEM opportunities to gain practical knowledge and insight from experienced mid-career STEM professionals. The program is specifically aimed for graduate students to receive early career advice and opportunities to attend professional developmental workshops better known as Graduate Networking Series. Benefits as a participant include opportunities for students to broaden their network with alumni, faculty, and other professionals and gain knowledge and skill to advance their career.
The first Grad Networking Series event will be a Negotiating Basics Workshop. Dr. Nina Fefferman will run an interactive Virtual Workshop where she will demystify the negotiation process which include:
- Discussing negotiation process for women on the academic job market
- Informing participants about the kinds of resources and perks that can be asked for (salary, spousal accommodation, deferrals, teaching release, start-up, etc.)
- Describing how negotiation vary by discipline
