The College of Arts and Sciences and the Office of Online Learning have organized a series of asynchronous trainings for instructors and graduate students interested in online teaching. For the spring 2024 semester, we offer three certificates for all faculty, graduate students, and post-docs. Participants can select to take some or all of the trainings. The dates for spring are as follows:

  • February 5-16: Online Course Design
  • March 4-15: Online Course Development
  • March 25-April 5: Online Course Delivery

This training provides resources for returning, new, or interested online instructors. Each certificate takes roughly 3 hours to complete, for a total of 8-10 hours for all three certificates. Since the content of these certificates stands alone, instructors can take any or all modules and complete the certificates in any sequence. Cohorts will have facilitated discussions and short, reflective activities.

Topics covered in the certificates include but are not limited to the following:

  • Templates for asynchronous course schedule and calendar
  • Writing course objectives
  • Assessment models and learning methods
  • Canvas course templates
  • Developing engaging course content and multimedia
  • Builiding a community online
  • Teaching a variety of learners
