Opening Reception: Desiccate by Maggie Bendy at Gallery 1010

“Desiccate means to cause to become completely dry. This exhibition combines paintings and ceramic lamps to create a cohesive body of work through dryness. I combined media like oil paint, latex paint, Murphy’s Oil Soap, Turpenoid, bleach, water, and acrylic molding paste to create paintings that are very dry in appearance. As for the lamps, they were created with red stoneware clay, and the finished texture was made from a variety of fabrics.”

Artist statement by Maggie Bendy, undergraduate student at the University of Tennessee.
