Title: Can beauty in biology meet beauty in mathematics? --
Describing cross-degenerate bacterial diffusion using refined
Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation

Abstract: A recurrent theme in theoretical biology is the identification of
mechanisms responsible for the generation of structures. The
presentation discusses the potential role of PDE analysis in this
context, focusing on an application scenario in which mathematical
results indicate that core elements of considerably complex structure
formation phenomena in microbial populations can in fact be described
within the realm of simple parabolic problems. Particular methodological emphasis is on connections to aspects of
fundamental parabolic theory, inter alia requiring novel types of appropriate regularity control in heat equations driven by Orlicz-class
sources.
