Healthy Tribes: Supporting Innovative, Culturally - Responsive Public Health Infrastructure to Improve Wellness in American Indian/Alaska Native Communities

Dr. Reece will introduce an additional area for colleagues to consider in their efforts to utilize their expertise to improve and address the healthcare needs of our society. You will gain an understanding of the impact of social determinants of health and see some examples of innovative programs that strive to advance Health Equity from a grass roots to a systems and even global level.

Major Learning Objectives:

  • To develop an awareness of the health disparities prevalent in American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations
  • To foster an understanding of how AI/AN populations are unique to public health
  • Demonstrate how Social Determinants of Health and Historical Trauma impact AI/AN populations
  • Highlight how the CDC supports AI/AN populations through the Healthy Tribes programs
