The UT History Department invites you to the downtown East Tennessee History Center, to join us for a special Veterans Day event featuring a partnership between ETHS, University of Tennessee History Department, the UT Center for the Study of War and Society, the Knoxville History Project, and Knox Count Schools. In advance of Veterans Day, four UT historians will discuss themes related to local history and commemoration, especially with regard to Knoxville National Cemetery, a space of great historic significance. Their brief talks will discuss commemoration and graves worldwide and in American national practice, in Civil War history, and in relation to the centenary of World War I. This will be followed by the premier of a short documentary on the Veterans Legacy Program in Knoxville, and concludes with a historic walking tour of Knoxville National Cemetery. The lecture is free and open to the public and is funded by the Veterans Legacy Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The lecture will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, at the East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay Street, Knoxville.
