Dr. Rachel McKane will be speaking on Monday May 1st at 1:00pm in Student Union 169 about the connection between environmental justice and processes of urban change rooted in racial capitalism, city development, and present and historic housing inequality.

McKane is a 2012 graduate of UT with a degree in Global Studies and received their PhD in Sociology from Vanderbilt University in 2020. Their research and teaching interests include environmental justice, spatial inequality in cities, mutual aid, and quantitative and spatial methods.

Dr. Rachel McKane is a postdoctoral research associate in the Population Studies and Training Center for Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences at Brown University. McKane has accepted an offer to become the Jack Meyerhoff Chair of American Environmental Studies in the Department of Sociology at Brandeis University starting in the summer of 2023.
