The 2024 SEUSS-FLIC (Southeast US Scholars and Friends of Late Imperial China) annual conference will be held February 23-24, 2024 at UT. The theme is “Family, Friendship, and Community.” Fourteen scholars from universities and colleges across the southeast United States will present research on topics on Ming- and Qing-dynasty history, literature, art history, religion, philosophy, etc. The keynote speaker is Mark Halperin, Professor of Chinese at the University of California, Davis. His talk, titled “The Late Autumn of a Patriarch,” will address the letters of Yang Shiqi (1365-1444) and issues of fatherhood. The keynote will take place on 2/23 at 5 p.m. and the other presentations on 2/24 from 8:45 to 4:45.
