Join the Appalachian Justice Research Center for a conversation about the changing social and economic conditions of rural America with MacArthur Foundation Fellows, Dr. John Gaventa and Dr. Loka Ashwood, and UT faculty, Dr. Gabe Schwartzman (Geography) and Dr. Lindsay Shade (Sociology). This discussion will offer important insights into the growing inequalities in rural America, the changing nature of politics and citizen participation, and the possibilities of just transitions to new economies in the face of the decline of fossil fuels and climate change. Drs. Gaventa and Schwartzman will also discuss their new book, Power and Just Transitions: Struggles for a Post-Coal Future in an Appalachian Valley. Join the speakers after the event for a reception with light food and drinks.
