1 in 3 University of Tennessee students face uncertainty about where their next meal will come from; in some cases, they must make a choice between buying books or food, based on their budget. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrution Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps) can be a life-changing boost to a student's financial situation. At SNAP Access Day you'll hear perspectives from the Center for Financial Wellness, Tennessee Justice Center, the University of Kentucky, and UTHSC to learn the benefits of federal food aid as well as the barriers students face to access it.

  • 12pm ET: SNAP 101 Join us as we learn from the Tennessee Justice Center the ins and outs of SNAP for college students, from equity to eligibility.
  • 1:30pm ET: Work Study Simulation The Center for Financial Wellness takes us through an interactive simulation. Spend a day in the life of a Work Study student: budget, barriers, and beyond.
  • 3pm ET: Stigma and Hunger Panel Representatives from the University of Kentucky, UT Health Science Center, and UT Knoxville discuss and propose action on reducing stigma around hunger and food aid.
