TITLE: Understanding the loss landscape of variational quantum algorithms
ABSTRACT: Variational training of parameterized quantum circuits (PQCs) underpins many workflows employed on near-term noisy intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) devices. It is a hybrid quantum-classical approach that minimizes an associated cost function in order to train a parameterized ansatz. In this talk I will highlight two training workflows, quantum circuit learning and data-driven circuit learning, and discuss how investigating the effect of noise in this hybrid workflow, and visualizing the features of the loss can lead to better understanding of variational quantum algorithms.
