Stone Age Mariners in the Aegean: Seafaring during the Ice Age
Join the Archaeological Institute of America/ East Tennessee Society and UT's McClung Museum for a lecture by Professor Thomas Strasser from the Department of Art History at Providence College.
In recent years the evidence for Ice Age seafaring has grown significantly. More surprisingly, there is now evidence for pre-Homo sapiens visiting islands in the Aegean and southeast Asia. This talk examines how are early ancestors were far more precocious mariners than previously thought.
This is the 2nd Program in the 49th Annual Series, 2021-2022, for AIA/East Tennessee Society, and the Fifteenth Harry C. Rutledge Memorial Lecture in Archaeology.
