Dr. Lesly-Marie Buer will discuss her work with women struggling with substance abuse. Dr. Buer is the author of Rx Appalachia: Stories of Treatment and Survival in Rural Kentucky. Rx Appalachia documents how women, families, and communities cope with generational systems of oppression. Using the narratives of women who use or have used drugs, Dr. Buer's work explores the gendered inequalities that situate women’s encounters with substance use treatment.
