Using Kobe as "base camp," explore pop culture in Japan this mini-term as you travel to six other major cities - Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Himeji, Hiroshima, and Tokyo.

During this 3-week study abroad program, you will actively experience aspects of popular culture in Japan by personally interacting with producers, distributers, and consumers of cultural industries; physically interacting with tangible cultural objects; and critically analyzing signs/symbols/allegories, which will allow you to gain insight into some of the pressing social and political problems facing contemporary Japan.

Program director: Dr. Noriko J. Horiguchi, Associate Professor of Japanese
