On Monday November 18th, the Center for Global Engagement will and the University of Tennessee Law School will host the Second Annual CGE Signature Lecture on ""The Quest for Equality and Justice in South Africa: A Forensic Linguist Shares Lessons from the Courtroom and the Classroom". This will take place at the University of Tennessee Law School Room 132 at 4:00pm. Guests are requested not to arrive before 3:40pm due to a law school class taking place before the event.

Professor Kaschula's event is hosted by the Center for Global Engagement and the University of Tennessee Law School and sponsored by International Law Student Association, Department of English, Department of Sociology, Department of Anthropology, Department of Africana Studies, Denbo Center for the Humanities and the Arts, Linguistics Program, Forensic Anthropology Center, and Global Studies Program.

Professor Russell Kaschula's research fits squarely at the intersection of sociolinguistics, multilingualism, intercultural communication, and applied language studies. He has used his research to push for criminal justice reform in South Africa. Increasingly, using forensic linguistics, investigators have been able to come back and reevaluate cases, and evidence, using linguistic skills that were previously unavailable to the justice system. In some cases, forensic linguists work alongside the South African police to aid communication. Kaschula's research and life's work is a testament to the value of the Humanities and Social Sciences in solving some of the world's most pressing challenges.
