Knoxville Walking Tour: “On the Footsteps of Annemarie Schwarzenbach and Cormac McCarthy”

On Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, Jack Neely (UT alumnus and founder and executive director of the Knoxville History Project), will lead a Knoxville Walking Tour entitled “On the Footsteps of Annemarie Schwarzenbach and Cormac McCarthy” as part of  McCarthyFest as well as UT’s multidisciplinary project "Mapping 'Knoxville' Across Time, Media, and Cultures: Tracing Unexplored Connections Between the Work of Cormac McCarthy, Annemarie Schwarzenbach, and Buddy and the Huddle"

This Knoxville Walking Tour will start on the riverfront at Volunteer Landing and lead form there via Market Square to the Old City. It will last about 2 hours (9:45 to 11:45 am), and we will explore spaces and places are depicted in Cormac McCarthy’s novel  Suttree as well as in Annemarie Schwarzenbach’s photo-journalistic work about Knoxville from the 1930s. 

Meeting time and place:

The Knoxville Walking Tour “On the Footsteps of Annemarie Schwarzenbach and Cormac McCarthy is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, starting at 9:45 am in front of Calhoun’s On the River (400 Neyland Dr, Knoxville, TN 37902).
Please plan on arriving between 9:30 and 9:45 am so that the walking tour can start punctually at 9:45 am.


This Knoxville Walking Tour is free and open to the public. We need to limit the group-size to 25 participants and therefore advance registration is required. In order to reserve a space, please e-mail Dr. Stefanie Ohnesorg (Dept. of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures) and/or Dr. Bill Hardwig (Dept. of English) by 6 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, letting them know that you are interested in participating.
