 ores how the rise of artificial intelligence has reintroduced us to intrac
 table philosophical problems about the nature of reality and consciousness
 . Writing as a personal essayist and former religious believer\, O'Gieblyn
  weaves memoir and history into wry\, contemplative observations on the co
 ntemporary technological landscape. Her approach draws on key thinkers in 
 the Western tradition--John Calvin\, Rene Descartes\, Fyodor Dostoevsky\, 
 Hannah Arendt\, and many more--to meditate on disenchantment\, re-enchantm
 ent\, and our relationship to the deep-learning machines that now surround
  us. Her book raises urgent questions about what it means to be human in t

  Coleman is associate professor of English and affiliated faculty in Relig
 ious Studies at the University of Tennessee\, Knoxville. She is the author
  of Preaching and the Rise of the American Novel (2013) and numerous essay
 s on American Literature\, religion\, and secularity. She has been the rec
 ipient of a UT Humanities Center Faculty Fellowship to support her book in
  progress: "Margaret's Ghosts: Inventing Secular Womanhood in American Lit
 erature."\n\nFree and open to the public\, but registration is required.
