Row crop producers will explore research-based weed management strategies during the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s annual Weed Tour on Wednesday, June 18, at 8:30 a.m. at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, located at 605 Airways Boulevard in Jackson, Tennessee.

The event will feature field presentations of more than 40 research trials in cotton, corn and soybeans, showcasing the results of various herbicide applications during the 2025 growing season. With infestations of horseweed, Italian ryegrass, Palmer amaranth and more across the state, developing effective control solutions is essential for profitable production.

The tour will also highlight research trials featuring results from the See & Spray™ test system by John Deere, which uses visual recognition and machine learning to selectively spray herbicides rather than broadcasting them over a large area. This advanced technology enhances application accuracy, reduces waste and saves farmers money.

Larry Steckel, UT Extension weed specialist, is hosting the event along with his graduate students Hayden Love, Sally Reed and Colton Fuller from the UT Herbert College of Agriculture. They, along with other weed specialists, will be onsite throughout the day to answer questions and offer individualized recommendations. There is no cost to attend, and pesticide recertification points will be available for attendees.
