Apr 24, 2026: Successfully Sustaining Oak with Focus on Oak Regeneration Workshop at UT Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center

Join forest landowners and natural resource professionals for a continuing education workshop and field demonstration on oak regeneration. Learn about the ecological, economic, and social aspects of the various practices available to successfully regenerate and grow oak for future generations.

The workshop includes indoor presentations by a consulting forester, industry representative, university personnel, and private forest owner followed by an afternoon field tour illustrating oak regeneration principles and options. Information from the workshop will reinforce your decisions to initiate and manage future oaks on your property.

Registration fee: $20 (includes lunch)

We’ll dive into the range of options for container food growing, make mini container gardens to take home, and walk through the UT Kitchen Garden’s Container Display. As gardeners, we prioritize the plants in our collections. We are often driven towards colorful or well-structured blooms, various heights and smells, among other things. Many gardeners are also prioritizing the importance of pollinators in the garden. During this lecture, we’ll hear from Dr. Claire Hemingway, who studies our native pollinators. She’ll share information about their natural history and impressive cognitive abilities. This lecture will be a great opportunity to learn about gardens from the pollinator’s perspective!
